Where Do I Pray?

For many Utahns, religion is an important part of everyday life. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, better known as the "Mormon" Church, represents over 70-percent of the population. In 1847 Mormon pioneers, led by then-prophet Brigham Young, settled in the Salt Lake Valley and the Church continued to thrive. Since then, the Christian faith has grown to over 12.5 million members worldwide and is one of the fastest-growing religions in the world. The Ogden Temple, located in the center of the city, was the sixteenth temple to be constructed by the LDS Church and the first to be dedicated in Utah. Although the temple isn't open to the general public, its grounds are open for viewing during normal operating hours.
One of Ogden's hidden treasures is the Abbey of Our Lady of the Holy Trinity, located a short drive up Ogden Canyon in Huntsville. Established in 1947 as an extension of the Abbey of Gethsemani, one of the first monasteries founded in the United States, the Abbey of Our Lady of the Holy Trinity serves as a place of refuge and solace for those seeking God. One of the best-kept secrets is its famous Trappist Creamed Honey, available in fourteen delicious flavors, and can be purchased from the Abbey's gift shop. Most importantly, the abbey is an active monastery, housing an entire body of monks. Visitors are welcome to participate in some of the Abbey's services (and to hear the monks' prayers and chants). For more information on service times, you can contact the monastery directly at (801) 745-3784.
All of the world's major religions are found in Utah, and over 30 different denominations worship every week in Ogden. Click here for more information on meeting times and locations.
